Dr. Gowri Aragam
Gowri Aragam is a Harvard-trained psychiatrist, a mother, and now the creator and host of Sense of Self, a podcast exploring identity, self- narratives, and mental health.
With years of experience helping people understand their inner lives, Gowri has always dreamed of using her expertise to reach broader audiences. Moving into media feels like a natural evolution of her work, combining her professional training with her passion for storytelling and connection. She is currently a psychiatrist at UCSF and completed her residency at Massachusetts General Hospital/Mclean.
Host and Creator, Dr. Aragam, is a Harvard-trained psychiatrist who is committed to women’s empowerment and mental wellbeing. She is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at UCSF where she gives lectures on the relevance of identity and narrative in mental health, and incorporates these concepts into her day-to-day patient care. Prior to her role at UCSF, she was the co-founder of The Stanford Brainstorm Lab for Mental Health Innovation where she directed a course on Mental Health Product Development, and lectured at IDEO, a leading design consulting firm. Dr. Aragam applied human-centered design to product development partnerships with large tech companies in the bay area, most notably partnering with Pinterest to develop the “compassionate search” function.
